An interest in people, nature and their relationship has taken Boyd from the broad scale of natural environmental planning and urban design to change management and ecological sustainability, the hospitality industry, real estate, commercial development and residential design. Boyd continues to explore the limits of creativity that the inter-relationship that man and nature present.

Qualifications include a degree in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University USA 1975 and corporate membership of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects 1977.

Achievements

  • Involved in the redesign of the $30 million Strand Foreshore Redevelopment in Townsville
  • Managed the Parks Development Section in Hornsby Council
  • Successfully completed the design documentation, tender negotiation and contract administration for a $1.5 million urban design project at Pyrmont in Sydney

Coordinating design, planning, building approvals and sales documents for Main Arm Eco Centre as the enterprise centre for Main Arm Eco Village a rural landsharing community on 33 hectares at Main Arm Byron Bay Australia.

1999-2011 BWD Landscape Arch Urban Design Environmental Planning Mullumbimby.
Initiating Main Arm Eco Village as a social, physical and economically sustainable community on 33 hectares at Main Arm Byron Bay through company purchase, deriving a shareholder’s agreement, distribution of shares, coordinating planning, environmental and engineering reports for a rural landsharing community planning approval. Responsible for community development, planning approvals and project management. Consulting to private enterprise and Local Government in Australia and China.

1997-1999 Senior Landscape Architect Walter Smith Associates Townsville.
Detailed design for the $30 million Strand Foreshore Redevelopment. Environmental Landscape Coordinator – Hornsby Shire Council, Sydney. Review of Urban Strategy for Hornsby Business and Municipal Centre. Including advice for considerations for a $200 Million shopping complex redevelopment in the Hornsby Business District.

1995-1997 Principal – BWLA, Urban Design and Environmental Planning, Sydney.
Master planning participation for Kurri and Thurgoona TAFE campus. Residential design projects and detailed design, documentation for educational institutions and commercial development. Senior Landscape Architect with Peter Glass & Associates supervising design, documentation, tender negotiation and contract administration for City West MP3 Pyrmont redevelopment on behalf of NSW Public Works and Services.

1988-1995 Principal – Boyd Warren & Associates, Canberra.

Assisting in the preparation of planning guidelines for the Murray-Darling Basin Commission. Submitting rezoning and development applications to Councils for rural residential estates. Director Warren Partners, Canberra planning and administration of resort and commercial developments in Sydney, the South Coast of NSW and Canberra region. Represented the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects in reviewing the ACT Planning Bills, the Territory Plan and the National Capital Plan.

1987-1988 Office Manager – LDI International in Sydney.

Supervising six designers responsible for the contract documentation and administration of resort projects in Australia and the South Pacific region including Hayman Island, Queensland.

1984-1987 Office Manager – Brian Clouston & Partners, Huddersfield England.
Responsible for eight design staff working on various landscape and planning projects. Opened the Canberra office of Mitchell and Clouston involved in a road study connecting Central Canberra and the new district of Gungahlin. Responsible for planning report and stage one landscape design for Jerrabomberra Wetlands, Canberra.

1978-1984 Assistant Town Planner – Ballina Council, NSW.

Instrumental in the preparation of the Shire Wide Draft Local Environmental Plan. Assisting in planning for Council’s Commuter Airport proposal. Urban and civic planning and design for arterial roads, cycleways, subdivisions and caravan parks.

1975-1978 Principal – Boyd Warren Environmental Systems, Canberra.

Consulting to NCDC for parks and urban design briefs. Landscape design associated with roads and parkland in Canberra for DeLeuw Cather transport engineers. Completed a recreation study for the Nepean River for NSW Department of Planning. Consultant to the Monarto Development Commission SA modelling data for the design of the Monarto City Centre Park.
